APi Group company history timeline

1926

APi Construction Co. proudly traces its roots back to 1926 when A.P.I., Inc. was established as a small insulation contracting and distribution division of the mechanical company Reuben L. Anderson-Cherne.

Since 1926, APi Group has grown by acquisition to become the successful multi-billion-dollar company it is today.

1945

Vipond, in business in Canada since 1945, had offices in the province of Ontario.

1948

A Small Contractor Beginning to Grow: 1948-84

In 1948 the insulation-related activities were spun off into a separate firm known as Asbestos Products.

1964

1964: Lee Anderson joins his father's business.

1972

1972: Anco Products, Inc., a flexible duct and insulation manufacturer, is acquired.

1975

Reuben Anderson bought a northern Minnesota bank in 1975 and expanded it to neighboring towns.

1980

In 1980, Anderson launched a strategic initiative to diversify A.P.I. Inc. within the construction and construction-related industries.

1981

1981: North Dakota contractor Industrial Contractors, Inc. is acquired.

1985

The pace of acquisitions increased in 1985 when APi gained three more subsidiaries.

1989

Jamar's construction services division started up in 1989 to sell and rent aerial lift equipment, forklifts, scaffolding, and temporary heating equipment.

Another three acquisitions joined the APi Group in 1989.

1990

In 1990 APi became part of an alliance seeking to build a 175-mile toll road around the Twin Cities metro area.

1992

In 1992 Jamar bought Arrowhead Refrigeration, a northern Minnesota refrigerator service and repair business.

1993

Jamar opened an office in Upper Michigan in 1993 because it had won several contracts from that area in the past.

1994

APi bought Industrial Fabricators, Inc. and National Fire in 1994.

1995

Alliance had been founded in 1995 and did general design and installation of sprinkler systems.

1997

In 1997 APi Group, Inc. was formed, and APi Construction continued operations as a subsidiary.

Lee Anderson sold the chain to Norwest Corp. for a considerable profit in 1997 and retained two banks under the name Anderson Financial Corp.
