Who owns Porsche?

By Zippia Team - Aug. 22, 2022

Volkswagen Group owns Porsche and is considered its parent organization. Porsche was founded by Ferdinand Porsche in 1931.

Over the years since its founding, Porsche had a close relationship with Volkwagen Marque and later the Volkswagen Group. The first Volkswagen Beetle was designed by Ferdinand Porsche.

The two companies collaborated in 1969 to make the VW-Porsche 914 and 914-6. The 914-6 had a Porsche engine, and the 914 had a Volkswagen engine. In August 2009, Porsche SE and Volkswagen reached an agreement that the car manufacturing operations of both would merge in 2011 to form an Integrated Automotive Group.

Volkswagen AG agreed to 50.76% of Volkswagen AG being owned by Porsche SE as long as Volkswagen AG management took Porsche SE management positions (this allowed Volkswagen management to remain in control) and for Volkswagen AG acquiring ownership of Porsche AG.

In 2021, Porsche had annual revenue of 33.138 billion Euros with a workforce of 36,996 employees. Currently, Porsche subsidiaries include Mieschke Hofmann und Partner and Porsche Consulting.
