Who owns HP?

HP was founded by Bill Hewlett and Dave Packard in 1939. Their first product was an audio oscillator, and one of their first customers was Walt Disney. Since then, HP has been recognized as the symbolic founder of Silicon Valley.

In 1947, the company was incorporated with Packard as president. He handed the presidency over to Hewlett when he became chairman in 1964 but remained CEO of the company.

Hewlett was president of HP from 1964 to 1977 and served as CEO from 1968 to 1978, when he was succeeded by John A. Young. He remained chairman of the executive committee until 1983 and then served as vice chairman of the board until 1987.

HP became a public organization in 1957. In 1961, HP was listed on the New York Stock Exchange. In 1962, HP entered the Fortune 500 list at position 460. HP entered the Asian market in 1963. In 1964, Dave Packard was elected as the CEO and Chairman of the Board, and Bill Hewlett was elected as the President.

Since 2019, Enrique Lores has served as the President and CEO of HP. In recent years, HP has separated into two independent companies: Hewlett Packard Enterprise and HP Inc. HP Inc. continues to sell the company's well-known PCs and printers. Hewlett Packard Enterprise is focused on technology for businesses that most consumers don't know much about.
