What are the hierarchy levels of management?

By Kate Swindlehurst - Mar. 13, 2023

The hierarchy levels of management include low-level, mid-level, and top-level management positions. Of course, most people working in management have also previously worked in lower positions and have already risen in hierarchies to reach the management level.

Low-level management is the lowest level of the management hierarchy. This level often includes positions such as supervisors, section officers, superintendents, and any other executives. They often are responsible for HR control and guiding operating staff. Their primary concern is often the coordination and execution of the day-to-day workflow.

Mid-level management manages the low-level management positions and reports to top-level management. This level includes positions such as general managers, branch managers, and department managers. They are the link between day-to-day workflow and upper management.

Top-level management is the highest part of the management hierarchy. It includes positions such as chief operating officer, chief marketing officer, and others. They focus on broad strategic goals and concentrate on the big picture.
