It is extremely difficult to become a federal judge. While there are no specific requirements to do so, it is an extremely competitive and difficult position to obtain. Presidents of the United States nominate candidates to become federal judges, and they are then appointed by the US Senate.

It may seem like federal judges need to hold a law degree, but this is not technically a requirement. While the Senate looks into a candidate, they do look for relevant experience. While a law degree isn't required, it is often extremely beneficial.

The hardest part of becoming a federal judge is getting on the radar of the President. This means that connections and networking are crucial if you aspire to be a federal judge.
