Duties
During the course of their careers, Uniformed Division Officers carry out assignments in protection. Duties include:
Providing protection for The White House Complex, The Vice President's Residence, The Main Treasury Building and Annex, and foreign diplomatic missions and embassies in the Washington, D.C. area.
Traveling in support of the Presidential, Vice Presidential, and foreign heads of state/government missions.
Enforcing mandated protective responsibilities as described under Title 18, United States Code, Section 3056A.
Our Uniformed Division's mission is to protect facilities and venues secured for U.S. Secret Service protectees. Throughout its history, the Uniformed Division has accomplished this mission through individuals who embody honor, integrity and a commitment to excellence.
Today, the Uniformed Division has grown both in size and scope of responsibility and is mandated by law to provide physical security for the White House Complex and the vice president's residence at the Naval Observatory. It also provides security for the Treasury Department building and foreign diplomatic missions in Washington, D.C. The Uniformed Division also has specialized teams including Counter Sniper, Emergency Response, K-9, and more.
Requirements
U.S. citizenship is required.
Possess a current valid U.S. driver's license.
Be at least age 20 and less than age 37 at the time you receive a conditional offer of employment, unless you have previous service in a Federal Civilian Law Enforcement position covered by special law enforcement or firefighter retirement provisions, including early or mandatory retirement. Applicants with veteran's preference must receive a conditional offer of employment prior to reaching age 40 to continue in the application process.
Carry and use a firearm. Maintaining firearm proficiency is also mandatory.
Possess uncorrected visual acuity of no worse than 20/100 binocular. Possess corrected visual acuity of 20/20 or better in each eye.
Hearing loss, as measured by an audiometer, must not exceed 25 decibels (A.S.A. or equivalent I.S.O.) in either ear in the 500, 1000, and 2000 Hz ranges. Applicants must be able to hear the whispered voice at 15 feet with each ear without the use of a hearing aid.
Submit to a drug test prior to your appointment and random drug testing while you occupy the position.
Complete 12 weeks of intensive training at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC) in Glynco, GA or Artesia, NM and 17 weeks of specialized training at the James J. Rowley Training Center in Laurel, MD.

Locality pay varies by duty location. A fully trained CBP Officer is eligible for up to $45,000 in overtime pay in addition to the starting salary.
Grade level eligibility and salaries vary depending upon background, including experience and education, and duty location of the opportunity. This is a career ladder position with a grade level progression of GS-5, GS-7, GS-9, GS-11, and GS-12. You will be eligible for a promotion to the next higher grade level (without re-applying) once you successfully complete 52 weeks in each grade level. Promotions are at the discretion of the agency.
Officers are eligible to select from an array of federal employment benefits that include health, dental and other insurance plans, a generous annual and sick leave program, and participation in the Thrift Savings Plan, a retirement plan akin to a traditional and ROTH 401(k) offering.
LOCATION INCENTIVES: If you accept one of the duty locations listed below, you may be eligible to receive an additional 15%-25% of your salary each year for the first three (3) years of employment in addition to any overtime pay. If you accept the duty location of San Francisco, you may be eligible to receive an additional 25% of your salary each year for the first four (4) years of employment in addition to any overtime pay. Ability to write efficient MATLAB code for complex calculations, data manipulations and algorithm development and expertise in importing, cleaning, and analyzing large datasets using MATLAB functions.
Ability to write C / C++ code for device drivers, embedded systems, hardware, and object-orientated programming features
Proven expertise in electromechanical systems, sensor, gearheads, and motor design and development
Medical device experience with history of leading technology enablement & product innovation
Demonstrates advanced levels of technical leadership, technical acumen, & problem solving
Experience in all phases of the Product Development Lifecycle, especially early-stage proof-of-concept and technical feasibility.
Experience with software prototyping and understanding of electrical hardware.
Ability to communicate complex results, risks, & technology pathways in an effective manner
Advanced understanding of engineering statistical tools and methods, including but not limited to Design of Experiments (DOE), Monte Carlo analysis, Analysis of variance.
Proven ability to solve intricate engineering challenges in a dynamic and rapidly evolving environment
Preferred
Demonstrated expertise in EM navigation systems theory, sensors, algorithms, and hardware desgin
Knowledge of specialized toolboxes like signal processing, control systems and image processing.
Deep working knowledge of medical device design control & related regulations / standards, including but not limited to FDA 21 CFR 820.30, ISO-13485, ISO-14971, IEC-60601
Recognized as an expert in a specific field, who is sought out internally or externally.
Strong knowledge of intellectual property and demonstrated history of inventorship.
An understanding of how design decisions impact clinical and regulatory pathways
Committed to continuous improvement by applying technical advances in area of expertise.
Experience with systems engineering principles (solicitation & analysis of requirements, definition of Product Breakdown Structures & System Architectures, Interface Management, Traceability, etc.)
Experience designing, developing, and/or manufacturing disposable devices that work in conjunction with electronic devices.
Experience with MATLAB, C/C++, Altium, QNX/QT, Figma, JAMA, and Solidworks
