(NYSE:APD), a Fortune 500 manufacturer of industrial gases, is seeking an experienced Site Supervisor for its Northern California team at our Santa Clara, CA site. The Site Supervisor role is a key member of the management team for the Santa Clara Air Separation Unit (ASU) facility. In this position, you will have day to day responsibility with a broad range of duties focused on ensuring all aspects of operational discipline are in place and functioning properly for the Santa Clara ASU production site. The site operates 3 Air Separation Units which supply industrial gases to customers via 80 miles of nitrogen pipeline and bulk truck shipments. The successful candidate will build strong relationships with the plant and regional support teams as well as contractors. The position reports into the Santa Clara Site Manager. Manage the site Basic Safety Process and ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements. Work closely with the maintenance supervisor to coordinate scheduled/unscheduled work, set maintenance priorities and plan maintenance activities. Identify maintenance concerns, develop, and implement corrective/preventive measures. Ensure compliance with Preventive Maintenance programs. Support of all aspects of the day-to-day operation by troubleshooting plant process problems, driving plant projects, and understanding safe operating, design, permit limits. Investigate incidents and near misses, understand and correct the root cause of failures. Able to respond and support plant issues on a 24/7 basis. This role is a safety sensitive position. Required Skills / Abilities: Demonstrated leadership and interpersonal skills. A track record of success on Safety, Environmental, Quality and Employee Engagement. Strong operating experience in production facilities of similar complexity. A strong commitment to employee engagement, team building and diversity & inclusion. Minimum Hiring Requirements: Bachelor's degree in engineering is preferred but not required. 5 years in manufacturing or production background Supervisory experience preferred. In California, the expected pay range is $108,000 - $129,000 plus bonus and a $10,000 sign on bonus. The range we reasonably expect to pay for this position as individual compensation decisions is based on a variety of factors. For Santa Clara candidates who reside in the area there will be an additional payment up to $18,100 a year which will be paid per pay cycle as a separate line item. In this role, you will be responsible for the supply of Hydrogen (H2) and Demineralized Water to our Texas City facility, which includes the operation of a 175 MMSCFD Steam Methane Reformer (SMR), 445 GPM Demineralization System, Natural Gas supply, and the Pipeline H2 supply to the Facility. Your scope of responsibility includes the EH&S operation of the SMR and Demineralized Water Unit, SMR Air Permit, and of all personnel in these units and ensuring the safety of the site and the community in which we operate. During periods of crisis or emergency you will be required to react immediately to plan, organize, and execute the proper corrective actions. To be successful in this role, you will need to maximize the SMR asset utilization, minimize operating costs, and manage process performance of the facility to meet the Hydrogen needs safely, efficiently, and reliably. You will manage a team of 8-10 employees and work closely with the Air Products Customer Service Center (CSC) Manager and Air Products Regional Technical Resources to ensure the reliable supply of Hydrogen to the Gulf Coast Ammonia Facility while reporting to the Supply Of Gas (SOG) Asset Superintendent. In addition to managing the Texas City SMR and Demineralization Unit, you will be responsible for the continued alignment of the SMR operation with the North American HyCO fleet. Accountabilities will include identification of applicable SMR Best Practices and interfacing with Operations Excellence SMR support team. The facility is a greenfield site built to be the world's largest single train ammonia plant and marks the expansion of Air Products Gulf Coast presence into a new geographic area at Texas City, where we currently have no operations. This plant is Air Products' first Ammonia Plant operation in 25 years. The facility assets include Air Products' largest SMR, a 100,000 Nm3/Hr Nitrogen Air Separation Unit (ASU), a 3600 T/D Ammonia Plant, Ammonia Pipelines, 60 MW of Steam Turbine Power Generation, and large Utility System. The facility has connections to the Air Products Gulf Coast Pipeline system for Hydrogen and external parties for Natural Gas, Water, and Power. The Ammonia Plant is owned by a 3rd party, Gulf Coast Ammonia, which has separate Environmental Permits but is operated by Air Products as part of the integrated operation of the overall facility. Dimensions of the role * 8-10 direct reports. * Operational responsibility for ~ $ 350 MM of plant assets which generate ~ $30 MM of EBITDA annually. * Facility downtime penalty > 100,000 to a max of 500,000 USD per day on a total loss of Hydrogen. * Multi-unit site with complex interface between SMR, Steam Turbine, and other operating units. * Responsible for SMR Air Environmental permit. * Serves as day-to-day interface with CSC for the total Hydrogen Supply. * Responsible for Health and Safety Compliance guided by Air Products Global EH&S Standards. Key Job Responsibilities This position will be accountable for the following end results: * Lead a team of 8-10 employees and ensure sufficient experienced, trained, qualified resources are available to manage SMR and Demineralization Unit. * Administer Environmental, Health and safety (EH&S) standards to ensure the protection of employees, contractors, the community, and the environment. * Develop and maintain relationship with Air Products CSC and HYCO Operational Excellence teams. * Ensure the facility is adequately integrated into the overall Air Products Gulf Coast HyCO operations. * Direct and monitor Hydrogen production to efficiently meet customer requirements. * Identify improvements to SMR to enhance Air Products utilization of the assets. Meets client and operating company standards related to gas meter work in accordance with our core values Monitors and manages employee records including; dailies, soft logs and digital work forms Maintains logs, discussions, requests, and job scheduling for internal and external clients Trains meter department new hires Installs gas meters, regulators, piping and pipe fitting work with black iron pipe Performs change-out of existing gas utility meters and installs upgraded gas utility meters Performs gas leak repair including above ground meter sets Cleans and prepares meter worksites to eliminate possible hazards Monitors and maintains tools and equipment for proper use, storage, and upkeep Completes all work in an organized, timely manner, within standard operating procedure Uses relevant information and individual judgment to determine whether events or processes comply with laws, regulations, or standards and communicates abnormal working conditions to appropriate parties Measures, cuts, and threads pipes to specifications, using tools such as saws, pipe threaders, or pipe benders Inspects, examines, or tests installed systems or pipelines, using pressure gauge, observation, or other methods Plans pipe system layout, installation, or repair, according to specifications Attaches pipes to walls, structures, or fixtures, such as radiators or tanks, using brackets, clamps, tools, or welding equipment Cuts or bores holes in structures, such as bulkheads, decks or walls prior to pipe installation, using hand or power tools Shuts off gases from pipe sections, using valve keys or wrenches Performs other duties as assigned Some travel is required Success Factors: Ability to perform heavy manual labor for extended periods, often under adverse climatic conditions. Ability to lift up to 80 lbs multiple times during a work shift Ability to climb, dig, work in tight spaces, on uneven surfaces, walking, stooping, and kneeling Ability to understand and follow specific oral and written instructions Ability to work well independently and as a part of a team with co-workers Ability to pass motor vehicle, criminal background check, and comply with drug-free workplace policy English usage sufficient to keep records, place orders, and prepare simple narrative reports Willingness and ability to learn additional skills Experience and Education: Three (3+) plus years' experience in a construction role is required Prior crew coordination experience is preferred Licensed Plumber, Pipe Fitter and or three (3) years apprenticeship is preferred An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted on a year to year basis Additional Requirements/Licenses/Certifications: Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid State of Residence Driver's License is required within two weeks of employment. Candidates must pass criminal and Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) background checks and pass a pre-employment drug screen.
