2 positions available Hours Per Day: 6.25 hours Under basic supervision, provides special needs students with a variety of individual and/or classroom support in the attainment of educational goals; provides assistance to Minot Public School (MPS) Teachers as needed to provide a positive learning and socialization environment for the students.

* Assists severely disadvantaged and impaired students in school classrooms with educational programs, specialized direct services, special assignments, and individual assistance; provides assistance to Teachers as requested; performs duties within scope of authority, and in compliance with MPS policies; duties may vary according to job assignment.
* Works with students with profound and complex physical, emotional, and intellectual disabilities; assists students with special physical needs and emotional disturbances to function effectively and interact in a group educational environment.
* Supervises, instructs, and monitors students; conducts exercises and communicates with students to help achieve learning objectives with individual assistance and small group sessions.
* Assists with supervising students, encourages good student behavior, and guides students to stay on task in work and play activities; alerts Teacher to student's special behavioral and learning issues.
* Assists students with learning tasks, self-help skills, and Individualized Education Programs (IEP).
* Assists with development of individual learning plans, class lesson plans, and special events plans; assists with planning, preparation, development, and distribution of classroom materials.
* Monitors student behavior and documents special issues and problems; assures all required written reports are completed and submitted daily; assists with clerical duties and record keeping as needed.
* Communicates with students and staff to convey pertinent information while maintaining confidentiality of personal information.
* Assists with individual and small group interventions to improve student behavior.
* Enforces MPS policies and rules of conduct, and reports behavior issues, disciplinary incidents, and other concerns to Teacher or Principal; supervises students to verify compliance with MPS policies.
* Helps students to improve their science, math, and language skills.
* Monitors students behavior, helps students with social skills, advises Teacher of complex issues.
* Supports the relationship between the Minot Public School District and the general public by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with clients, visitors, and District staff; maintains absolute confidentiality of work-related issues, client records, and District information; follows compliance rules governing child abuse; performs related duties as required or assigned.
Education, Training and Experience Guidelines
Associate's Degree; AND one year of experience working with children; OR High school diploma and Paraprofessional certification from North Dakota Department of Public Instruction; OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Must pass a thorough background investigation.
Knowledge of:
* MPS policies and procedures.

* Methods and techniques to assist in instructing reading, writing, and mathematics.

LICENSE AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
A valid North Dakota State Driver's License may be required, Paraprofessional certification from North Dakota Department of Public Instruction is required; Crisis Prevention intervention [CPI] training and certification may be required for some incumbents; CPR and First Aid training is preferred.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT
Work is performed in MPS schools and facilities, and requires working with children; work involves intense concentration on activities taking place around one's location on a constant basis throughout the entire work day; may be required to physically restrain students if they are at risk of hurting themselves or others.

Continuously observes swimming area to ensure safety of patrons. Ensures the swimming area is open to patrons at scheduled times and only authorized persons are admitted to the area. Rescues swimmers in trouble, promptly administers first aid, and calls for medical assistance when needed. Warns swimmers of unsafe environmental or health conditions, ocean conditions of rough water or hazards, and recommends closing swimming areas until safe conditions prevail. When working at pools, may operate water pumps and control chemical additives to ensure pool water meets specified standards. **STATEMENT OF PURPOSE:** **Works under the supervision of the RN Charge Nurse/Director of Nursing. The Nurse Assistant will function as a member of the multi-disciplinary health care team under the direction of a registered nurse providing nursing care and other functions as assigned or delegated by the RN Charge Nurse. + Help patients with ADLs (activities of daily living) for which they need assistance, such as bathing, combing hair, brushing teeth, shaving, putting on stockings and/or slippers, dressing, ambulation, and toileting.
+ Help patients with equipment for their treatment and help patients to move, transfer from bed to chair, or transport them to other departments for testing or treatment.
+ Infection control: know and follow proper protocol in avoiding the spread of germs and spores which transport disease.
+ Observe and report to assess the progress of the patient as well as any needs the patient might have for medical intervention and observe and remove any potential hazards which could cause accidents.
+ Keep patients rooms clean and orderly
+ Set up patients for meals, assisted with meals if needed, or fed if unable to do for self and document amount of meal taken.
+ Answer signal lights promptly on all patients on unit, not just assigned patients.
+ Practice as a team member in delivery of care.
