There are certain duties that all school bus drivers are required to perform. These include: * Must know and be able to comply with the federal, state and local school district rules, regulations, procedures and laws as they relate to the operation of a passenger vehicle. * Must be able to safely and efficiently transport students to and from school as well as related activities. * Must conduct thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections on school bus and special equipment. * Must have interest in and empathy for children. * Must possess comprehensive knowledge of driving safety and courtesy. * Must have a valid New Mexico commercial driver's license with appropriate endorsements. * Must be able to meet or exceed the state required physical examination. * Must have the ability to understand and carry out written and oral instructions. * Must have the ability to maintain effective student behavior management control over groups of children. * Must be able to meet emergency situations in accordance with operating procedures. * Must be willing and able to submit to and pass substance abuse testing as prescribed by the school board policy. * Must have and maintain a satisfactory driving and criminal background that reflects a professional driver and which meets all school district, state and federal requirements. * Must possess oral, written, math and communication skills to accurately complete the assigned forms and reports. * Must be able to drive all district route buses and possess the ability to operate lift equipment and securement devices on special needs equipment. * Must be at least twenty one (21) years of age. * Must attend in-service training classes and safety meetings as required by the district, state and federal government. * Must be able to read and interpret schedules and forms as well as read and use a map. * Must be physically able to climb out of the school bus emergency door to evacuate the bus in an emergency. * Must possess working knowledge of how to care for students with disabilities and special transportation needs. * Must possess comprehensive knowledge of driving safety and courtesy. * Must complete bus evacuation drills and school bus safety training to meet district and state standards. * Must be able and willing to complete and turn in all required documentation in a timely and accurate manner or as instructed. * Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds. Job Duties * Safe and efficient operation of the school bus in accordance with federal, state, and local statutes and regulations. * Maintain good work habits through timeliness and low absenteeism for daily assignment and extra trips. * Monitor total weekly hours in order to avoid overtime. * Properly report any and all mechanical concerns for vehicle and its component parts to minimize wear and to extend its useful life. * Exercise student management through correct use of communication and discipline and report discipline problems through proper district procedures. * Control emergency situations in a proper manner and in accordance with established federal, state, and local operating procedures. * Effective and professional communications with students, parents, district personnel and the public. * Implementation of maximum safety procedures for all passengers while on the bus and during loading and unloading activities. * Maintain a safe and clean working environment including bus, yard, and facilities. * Maintain current route sheets including student list, bus stops, and times. Notify supervisor immediately of any deviations or possible route revisions. * Maintain current seating charts. * Attend Parent, Student, and Driver conferences when required. * Attend Individualized Education Plan (IEP) meetings when required. * Attend all required in-service training as well as any other required meetings. * Perform other duties as assigned by director or designee. Working Conditions Conditions include operating in inclement weather, heat, cold and exposure to possible injury due to traffic accidents. Exposure to dust, traffic fumes and high noise level from both outside traffic as well as from passengers. On occasion psychological factors may include working with students with disabilities, dealing with life threatening emergencies as well as coping with children. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds. Compensation Type: Non-Exempt Employment Type: Temporary (Fixed Term) Grade: NE02 The purpose of this position is to provide a safe climbing experience and deliver exceptional customer service to students, faculty, and community members. This position is to aide in the overall functions of the climbing wall and responsible for keeping the climbing wall safe at all times. MAJOR DUTIES Understands and enforces all climbing wall and HHPC policies and procedures. Provides quality customer service at all times and shares Climbing Wall event information, safety tips, and instruction to customers. Checks in all climbers at the Climbing Wall desk to issue gear. Completes opening and closing daily inspections of climbing wall, climbing gear and ropes. Perform routine maintenance of the climbing wall such as, tightening holds, setting routes, cleaning holds, and fixing bolts. Attends staff meetings and scheduled trainings. Reports any maintenance or gear issues immediately to the Coordinator of Outdoor Recreation. Other duties as assigned KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION Knowledge of types and instruction in indoor climbing, climbing techniques, knot tying, and belaying. Knowledge of customer service principles and practices. Knowledge of climbing equipment use and maintenance of gear. Knowledge of performing rescues, ascending, Top Rope and Lead Belaying. Knowledge of learning styles and teaching methods. Ability to work at heights up to 30 feet and carry up to 50 lbs. Communicating ideas effectively for others to understand. Public speaking, interpersonal communication, and instructional methods. Problem solving skills and decision making. SUPERVISORY CONTROLS The supervisor assigns work in terms of general instructions which may require some judgment. The supervisor spot-checks completed work for compliance with detailed and specific instruction as well as, procedures, accuracy, nature and propriety of the final results. GUIDELINES The Guidelines include Climbing Wall Policies, HHPC Policies, San Juan College Employee Handbook, ADA regulations, and other college and program policies and procedures. These guidelines are clear and specific in their application. COMPLEXITY/SCOPE OF WORK The work consists of routine and adaptive customer service duties. The variety of customer needs and regular maintenance contributes to the complexity of the position. The purpose of this position is to keep climbers and climbing wall staff safe at all times. promote safe methods of climbing, offer instruction, and to provide fun recreation. CONTACTS Contacts are typically with co-workers, other college personnel, faculty, staff, students, and members of the general public. PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT The work is typically performed while intermittently sitting, standing, climbing, and hanging in a harness for periods of time. The employee frequently lifts light objects, climbing ladders, climbing holds, and gear. Staff must be able to ascend to perform rescues and climb to top of wall. The work is performed at an indoor climbing wall. The employee is exposed to noise, dust, dirt, and Heights up to 30 feet. The work also requires the use of climbing gear, hand tools, drills, and protective devices such as masks, goggles, gloves, etc. SUPERVISORY AND MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITY This position is responsible for supervision over the safety of all climbers and are to manage gear appropriately. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Ability to read, write and perform mathematical calculations at a level commonly associated with the completion of high school or equivalent. Must be certified in CPR, training provided. Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/ internship or having had a similar position for one to two years. A Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) works under the supervision of a licensed Occupational Therapist (OT) to assist in providing rehabilitation services to individuals with physical, mental, or developmental conditions that affect their ability to perform everyday activities.
