JOB SUMMARY The Unit Aide provides support for the nursing staff by providing transport of patients, positioning assistance, running errands as needed, between case room, cleaning, and stocking of supplies. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Other duties may be assigned. · Transports patients safely to procedural area and/or pre-op areas. Correctly identifies patient by armband and reports any delays in transport immediately to charge nurse. · Demonstrates proper, through and timely cleaning of suites between cases. Restores furniture to proper position. Cleans specialized surgical equipment, before and after procedure following the manufacturer's guidelines. Cleans Physiologic monitoring equipment and returns to ready state for next Patient. · Stock supplies in sub-sterile areas and scrub areas. Maintains par level and reorders specialty supplies as assigned. · Applies principles of standard precautions at all times. Safely solidifies and disposes of blood and other bio-waste after each procedure. · Responds promptly to all pages from peri-operative areas. Runs errands to other departments in a timely manner. Will co-sign Blood release form in Blood Bank after verification of name date of birth and blood ID number. Transports blood to appropriate suite and validates correct Patient with RN. · Assists with patient positioning/moving in the OR under direction of nursing staff. · Assists with housekeeping duties to maintain cleanliness and order in the department. · Returns equipment to appropriate area after use. · Restock supplies in the department as needed, this is to include IV fluids. · Identify correct specimen and documentation for all frozen sections, Microbiology and Cytology specimens before transport. · Cleans and makes up patient stretchers and beds as needed. · Maintains housecleaning closet and surgical-sub sterile area in and organized manner consistent with all regulatory compliance standards. · Washes schedule board strips. · Utilizes free time to wipe down equipment and keep hallways clear. · Meets and exceeds the expectations of patients and all other customers we serve. · Actively assists and supports departmental activities to ensure that operational and salary expenses are equal to or less than approved budget. · Understands the principles and concepts of Performance Improvement. Looks for opportunities and solutions for process improvements and seeks to improve job skills. ABOUT THE ROLE: The Med-Tech assists with the administration of medication under the direct supervision of an LPN or an RN. Assists licensed nursing staff by performing routine nursing duties and activities of daily living. Here are a few of the daily responsibilities of a Med-Tech: * Assists residents with dressing, grooming, eating, bathing, positioning, turning, toileting and exercising. * Transfers, transports and escorts residents as needed. * Answer signal lights promptly. * Changes bed linens, makes beds, and keeps rooms clean and orderly. * Safely prepares, administers, and charts oral, topical, and suppository drugs. The med-tech who prepares the medicine administers the same. * Checks and prepares each dose immediately preceding administration. * Follows administration protocol. * Records administration of the medication on residents medication administration record. Discards medication refused or otherwise not given and records on medication administration record. * Reports medication errors or reactions to medications immediately to the charge nurse, who, in turn, reports to the residents attending physician and completes the necessary documentation. * Performs accurate pulse and blood pressure and recognizes their significance in drug therapy. * Signs and has access to the controlled schedule drug cabinet. * Administers medication only upon a written physician's order. Here are a few of the qualifications we need you to have: * Successful completion from a state approved geriatric nursing assistant training program. Prior geriatric nursing aide experience is preferred. Registration with state registry required. * Current CNA License within the State of Florida. * Successful completion of state approved Medicine Aide course, and when applicable, the continuing education course. * Ability to understand and follow instructions in English, communicate effectively, and perform simple arithmetic.
