SOUTHWESTERN LAW SCHOOL in Los Angeles invites applications for full-time entry-level or experienced Associate Professors of Academic Success and Bar Preparation (AS/BP). These non-tenure-track positions, which are for an initial 2-year appointment, can lead to a long-term contract. AS/BP faculty vote on virtually all issues in faculty meetings, serve on faculty committees, are eligible for summer research stipends, and are eligible to apply for sabbaticals.
AS/BP faculty work with students from pre-matriculation through the bar-study period. They teach our summer Bison Bootcamp program and serve as bar-study coaches for graduates. They teach the 1L Foundations of Law & Practice course, which instructs students about core law school skills, like reading cases and statutes, note-taking and classroom engagement, rule synthesis, outlining, and exam-taking techniques. They also teach upper-level academic improvement and bar preparation courses.
We seek candidates who are passionate about teaching and can demonstrate success in the classroom, love working with students outside the classroom, and are willing to contribute to the campus community through committee and related service.
In addition to our on-campus programs, we offer a mostly asynchronous online J.D. program with full-time and part-time options. The new AS/BP faculty will be expected to teach in any of the J.D. programs, including the Online J.D. Program, as needed.
Starting entry-level base salary is anticipated to be $135,000.

APPOINTMENT DATE AND ACADEMIC CALENDAR
The need for part-time faculty is greatest in Fall and Spring semesters. The Fall term begins in the late August and ends in mid-December; the Spring term runs from the middle of January through the end of May. On rare occasions part-time faculty are needed during one of the Summer Session segments.
APPOINTMENT AND SALARY
All part-time faculty appointments are made as Lecturers, under the terms of the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the CSU system and the California Faculty Association. Initial appointments are for one semester only.
Classification Range: $5,007 - $6,359 per month
Anticipated hiring range depending on qualifications, not to exceed $5,925 per month
The full-time (15 units per semester) monthly base salaries indicated above are prorated to the number of units worked and are paid in six monthly payments for each full semester. For a three-unit assignment, typical starting compensation ranges from $6,008.40 to $7,110 per semester.
