Job Summary:
This position is responsible for gathering and analyzing statistical data to help the company make wise sales and financial decisions. How you'll contribute: As a Senior Actuarial Consultant, you'll be responsible for deliverables encompassing our variable annuities and flagship registered-indexed-linked-annuity product, Shield. What you'll do
Serve as internal actuarial point of contact and liaison working with the external consultants that produce the MA Part C and D Bids.
Summarize actuarial findings and translate insights that can drive other business activities (e.g. budgeting, annual planning, in-year implications, etc.)
Conduct forecasting and profitability analysis specific to Medicare Advantage plans; including cohort-level profitability analysis.
Perform ad-hoc analyses as requested, such as assessing the impact of Star rating changes, benefit changes, or other regulatory changes.
Communicate and explain variances and drivers of forecasts to senior leadership.
Stay updated on industry regulations, trends, competitor strategies, and market best practices within Medicare.
Provide strategic insights regarding the overall business strategy, incorporating product knowledge and the broader Medicare Advantage market dynamics.
What you need
Bachelor's degree in Mathematics or Bachelor's Degree with 12 credit hours of math at the calculus level or above including at least 3 credit hours of statistics where calculus is a prerequisite.
Must have obtained the Associate designation from the Society of Actuaries and membership in the American Academy of Actuaries.
Requires in depth knowledge of the Medicare Advantage industry.
Six years' experience pricing or reserving health insurance products, either group or individual. Must include either 1) the design of experience and manual rating factors and formulas and the design of studies to monitor the suitability of such factors or formulas or 2) the design of retrospective analysis of liability estimation and the design of studies to monitor the suitability of the completion factor estimates. Must also include at least two years' experience with Medicare Advantage.
Must have advanced knowledge of actuarial and statistical modeling techniques and how they are applied to solve problems in the health insurance field.
Proficient Data Query and PC spreadsheet skills: Must be able to learn and excel using our computer query languages (including SQL) and PC data analysis tools. Must be skilled at analyzing data and solving problems.
Ability to work effectively with diverse personalities at various management and non-management levels having a wide range of technical understanding. Must be able to work independently as well as on a co-managed team.
Must be able to communicate technical subjects to non-technical people with sufficient clarity to explain the ramifications of actions and justify recommendations to coworkers, the Chief Actuary and Senior Management.
Ability to see and anticipate significant trends affecting rates, reserves, and financial projections. Ability to design and develop effective models for rates, reserves and financial projections that can adapt to changing conditions. Ability to determine the appropriate data sources and methods for analysis. Must understand the environment of the application of the analysis sufficiently to assure that the intended results are achieved.
