Equipment Operators use machinery to move construction materials, earth, and other heavy materials at construction sites. They operate equipment that clears and grades land to prepare it for construction of foundations, buildings, power generation facilities, and other structures. They operate excavation and loading machines equipped with scoops, shovels, or buckets that dig sand, gravel, earth, or similar materials. In addition to operating bulldozers, they operate trench excavators, mini-excavators, skid steer, and similar equipment. Sometimes, they may drive and control industrial trucks (CDL), forklifts or lulls for lifting materials. They also operate and maintain air compressors, pumps, and other power equipment at construction sites. Tamping equipment operators use machines that compact earth and other fill materials for construction sites. POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

Follow blueprints and building plans to meet the needs of clients;

Audit
Oversees the Field Safety Manager in ensuring the Company and its job sites remain hazard and accident free by conducting periodic safety inspections.
Provide support to field staff in the event of a site inspection.
Prepare study and analysis of industrial accident causes and hazards to health for use by company personnel and outside agencies. Make recommendations to resolve any deficiencies.
Access ways for reducing claim costs
Research and manage ways to reduce the net premium paid by improving the experience modifier.
Record and compile data, update logs, monitor equipment and schedule maintenance.
Risk Management
Update and maintain the A/Z Corporation Safety Plans. Train employees in proper procedures and conduct periodic emergency evacuation drills to ensure planning is effective in practice. Employees should know the placement of all fire extinguishers and first aid kits.
Provide recommendations and assistance, along with the Field Safety Manager, to Project Managers and Superintendents, with respect to job site hazards, employee training, new/safe equipment operation and safe material or substance utilization.
Ensure compliance with corporate worker's compensation program including working with internal personnel and third-party administrators/legal counsel, to effectively investigate and resolve claims in an expeditious and cost-effective manner.
Perform and oversee investigation of accidents, injuries, and unsafe working conditions to include interfacing with workers compensation claims and communication with injured workers and the return-to-work strategies. Cooperate in the preparation of material and evidence for organizational use in hearings, lawsuits, and insurance investigations. Provide recommendations for remedial action.
Remain current on federal, state, county, and local safety regulations. Keep management advised of new or revised regulations and their projected impact.
Training
Plan and implement programs to train managers and employees in work site safety practices, safe equipment operating techniques and fire prevention for job sites and office.
Facilitate employee training in first aid and CPR. Maintain training records in the employee files.
Ensure new employees receive safety instructions prior to beginning work. Emphasize any specific site hazards and thoroughly explain all applicable precautions.
Provide training and education to all levels of staff, as required, by Federal and State safety regulations.
Compliance
Support the Field Safety Manager regarding all Subcontractor job specific Safety Programs.
Review new Subcontractor pre-qualification documentation to ensure they have an acceptable safety record and communicate with the Field Safety Manager and Project Manager of their acceptance or rejection.
Plan and implement risk management, safety policies and procedures in compliance with all federal, state, county and local rules and regulations, including MSDS requirements, for both field and office operations, to maximize a safe working environment.
Act as corporate contact for any federal, state, or municipal safety or risk management authority and/or personnel, including, but not limited to OSHA and/or DOSH.
Manage and oversee motor vehicle fleet safety program and conduct driver background investigations to qualify authorized drivers.
Manage hazardous materials control program. Work with 3

Certified Pipe Welder
A/Z Corporation Job In North Stonington, CT
The Pipe Welder will participate in the installation or maintenance and inspection of HVAC, Utility and Process piping systems. * Regular attendance at assigned location; may include the A/Z fabrication facility or other project sites;
* Works on systems that include Heating Hot Water, Chilled Water, Steam, Condensate, Compressed Air, Process Fluids, Chemical, Fuel Oil, Gasses, and other related systems;
* Works with materials that include carbon steel, stainless steel, plastics, fiberglass, copper, (brazed, soft soldered and pro-press);
* Clamp, hold, tack-weld, heat-bend, grind or bolt component parts to obtain required configurations and positions for welding.
* Remove rough spots from work pieces, using portable grinders, hand files, or scrapers.
* Chip or grind off excess weld, slag, or spatter, using hand scrapers or power chippers, portable grinders, or arc-cutting equipment.
* Weld pipe and components in flat, vertical, or overhead positions using open root butt weld, socket weld and/or fillet weld.
* Operate manual or semi-automatic welding equipment to fuse metal segments, using processes such as gas tungsten arc, gas metal arc, flux-cored arc, plasma arc, shielded metal arc, resistance welding, and submerged arc welding.
* Recognize, set up, and operate hand and power tools common to the welding trade, such as shielded metal arc and gas metal arc welding equipment.
* Ignite torches or start power supplies and strike arcs by touching electrodes to metals being welded, completing electrical circuits.
* Examine work pieces for defects and measures work pieces with straightedges or templates to ensure conformance with specifications.
* Prepare all material surfaces to be welded, ensuring that there is no loose or thick scale, slag, rust, moisture, grease, or other foreignmatter.
* Monitor the fitting, burning, and welding processes to avoid overheating of parts or warping, shrinking, distortion, or expansion of material.
* Select and install torches, torch tips, filler rods, and flux, according to welding chart specifications or types and thicknesses of metals.
* Fill holes, and increase the size of metal parts.
* Detect faulty operation of equipment or defective materials and notify supervisors.
* Determine required equipment and welding methods, applying knowledge of metallurgy, geometry, and welding techniques.
* Connect and turn regulator valves to activate and adjust gas flow and pressure so that desired flames are obtained.
* Lay out, position, align, and secure parts and assemblies prior to assembly, using straightedges, combination squares, calipers, and rulers.
* Repair products by dismantling, straightening, reshaping, and reassembling parts, using cutting torches, straightening presses, and hand tools.
* Clean or degrease parts, using wire brushes, portable grinders, or chemical baths.
* Mark or tag material with proper job number, piece marks, and other identifying marks as required.
* Position and secure work pieces, using hoists, cranes, wire, and banding machines or hand tools.
* Analyze engineering drawings, blueprints, specifications, sketches, work orders, and material safety data sheets to plan layout, assembly, and welding operations.
* Dismantle metal assemblies or cut scrap metal, using thermal-cutting equipment such as flame-cutting torches or plasma-arc equipment.
* Preheat work pieces prior to welding or bending, using torches or heating furnaces.
* Hammer out bulges or bends in metal work pieces.
* Develop templates and models for welding projects, using mathematical calculations based on blueprint information.
* Check grooves, angles, or gap allowances, using micrometers, calipers, and precision measuring instruments.
* Cut, contour, and bevel metal plates and structural shapes to dimensions as specified by blueprints, layouts, work orders, and templates, using powered saws, hand shears, or chipping knives.
* Estimate consumable materials needed for production and manufacturing and maintain required stocks of materials.
* Set up and use ladders and scaffolding as necessary to complete work.
* Use fire suppression methods in industrial emergencies.
* Detect faulty operation of equipment or defective materials and notify supervisors;
* Direct helpers or apprentices in appropriate tasks;
* Must maintain strict adherence to safety rules and quality;
* Participate in site housekeeping;
* Interact with co-workers in an attentive courteous manner;
* Additional duties as directed by management.
Qualifications
SKILLS & EXPERIENCE/REQUIREMENTS:
* Ability to work independently or as part of a team;
* Experience: 5 years of Field Experience, trade school or apprenticeship;
* Knowledge of materials, methods and tools involved in industrial construction;
* Attention to detail;
* Ability to keep hand and arm steady;
* Be highly focused on customer satisfaction expectations;
* Good documentation and record keeping;
* Preparation of miscellaneous paperwork including time sheets, daily reports and material requests;
* Competency in Permit Required Confined Space;
* Understanding of and strict adherence to daily Job Hazard Analysis (JHA);
* Appropriate state certification or license;
* OSHA 10 certification.
